Stay off the fields at Devens

Monday, May 9, 2011  by John Borelli

** Attention Devens players **

Devens Rec has received complaints about golfers using the soccer fields to warm up. That is not allowed. Please stay off and spread the word.

From Devens Rec: "... at no time are the field(s) to be used for practice or games. These field(s) are paid for by clients."

Yes, this stinks but Devens is very protective of their fields and we must respect that. They could always pull our lease and we'd end up with no course, so please find some other field to warm up in. Thank you.

Amesbury Pines Workday

Thursday, May 5, 2011  by John Borelli

Submitted by Drew McManus

On the morning of Saturday, April 30, Amesbury Pines DGC received some much needed TLC before her annual APO tournament this Saturday, May 7.

A small group of volunteers consisting of Dan Ouellet, Matt Thomas, Chad Hall, John Mucciarone, Andrew McManus and Mike Andrews worked on bringing the tee pads up to tourney shape. With the much needed assistance of a gas powered tamper and mini-kaboda, the work was carried out smoothly and swiftly.

Matt Thomas handled the Kaboda, which he used to dig out the tee pads, drop off stone dust and transport the tamper from hole to hole. Iron rakes and shovels were the tools of the trade for those volunteers not operating the heavy equipment.

> More photos in the NEFA photo gallery

While working our way from one tee pad to the next, we noticed that an anonymous volunteer had gone around and posted new pictures of each fairway on each hole's respective tee sign, complete with highlighted arrows on each photo showing the ideal pathway for a drive. We thank Mr. Anonymous for his contribution to the course!

The lunch vendor will be present once again selling dogs, sausages, and burgers. There will also be an after-party at Dano's complete with live music, food and choice beverages -- a killer time is sure to be had by all.

Amesbury Pines is primed and ready for another sold out APO Tournament. See you there!
