Rob Tatro elected as Interim NEFA President

Monday, July 26, 2010  by John Borelli

Submitted by Rob Tatro

Last week I was voted in as interim NEFA president by the NEFA Board of Directors, State Representatives, and volunteers. I have gladly accepted this position and look forward to bridging the gap between the resignation of our former president and our upcoming Fall elections. I feel like my ability to multi-task and work with people will help get our organization back on track and in position for new leadership to possibly take over in the next election.

I had resigned earlier this summer as NEFA Vice President so that I could be with my family during my Dad's illness. While my father's health concerns remain very real, I had no idea when I resigned that there would be such a collapse in our leadership shortly after. I live and breath this organization and love everything that it has done for me and it really hurt to see things fall as they did.

Therefore, I offered up my services last week and after some legitimate concern for me by our current leadership, we agreed to move forward. I hope to be able to serve NEFA well and look forward to working with you all in the near future.

If you have any thoughts or concerns, feel free to email me or call me at 508-397-4410.

Sincerely,

Rob Tatro

Double-down in CT this weekend

Friday, July 23, 2010  by John Borelli

It's double trouble this weekend in CT with the West Thompson Open on Saturday and the Greater Hartford Disc Golf Open on Sunday. Both events are NEFA points and the GHDGO is a PDGA B-Tier event.

Although the GHDGO is sold out, there are still plenty of spots left for the WTO. Then take your winnings to Mohegan Sun.

NEFA Special Olympics day featured on PDGA.com

Wednesday, July 21, 2010  by John Borelli

NEFA's disc golf demo at the MA Special Olympics last month is the lead story on PDGA today! Congratulations to Titan Bariloni who spearheaded the event for NEFA, as well as the several NEFA members who helped throughout the day. Great job, everyone!

Who knows, maybe disc golf will be an official Special Olympic sport one day thanks to the introduction they received from NEFA!

Correction: 4 was actually the magic number this weekend!

The sky was sunny and the wind swirling and gusty making disc flights on the peak course anyone's guess. Despite the unpredictable flights there were four aces on the Peak course! Justin Foster, Sean Franchi, Al Rosa, and Anne Lewis aced holes 3, 6, 8, and 17 respectively.

After the first round Juano Flores and Greg Aucoin had comfortable leads in MPO and AM1. Both held on for the wins despite hard charges from Todd Homes and Nick Connell. There was a three way tie for the lead in AM2 after the Peak course. The day ended in a payoff between Andrew Duquette and local Justin Kaulis. Andrew won the playoff on the second hole.

Al Rosa, Eric Kaplan, and Anne Lewis lead their divisions wire to wire. The advanced womens and intermediate womens divisions played the base course in the morning and were all found lounging by the pool when everyone else came off the Peak. Racheal Hudson took the win in the adv. womens division and Stephanie Brownell, in her first tournament, won the Int. womens division. Thank you to everyone who played and for your support of the Lincoln Peak Open, see you next year.

Beauty Hill recap

Monday, July 19, 2010  by John Borelli

Submitted by TD Blaze:

A day of sun, heat and eventually a cooling breeze left 49 players tired, but happy. Their spirits perked up after Lisa's homemade pie. All division winners received an etched glass trophy. The amateur winners received a disc from Innova representative Bradley Arnall. Five CTP winners received Vibram putters donated by Vibram Disc Golf.  The first three winners in each division received Lisa's homemade jam.  All in all a great day with plenty of prizes.
